My Dog Skip
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
In 1943, when Willie Morris was nine and an only child in the Mississippi town of Yazoo City, his father brought home an English smooth-haired fox terrier puppy from a breeder in Missouri. They called him Skip. Morris recalls the dog's exploits: catching a snap and carrying a football downfield, camping on a dare in the cemetery, and propping his paws on the wheel of the family DeSoto while Morris steered from under the dashboard, so that the dog seemed to drive.
