Noughts & Crosses (2001) is a young adult novel by Malorie Blackman set in an alternative Britain where dark-skinned Crosses rule and pale-skinned noughts face discrimination. Sephy, the daughter of a powerful Cross politician, and Callum, the son of a nought family who once worked for hers, have been friends since childhood. As they grow up and fall in love, segregation, violence and political unrest push them onto opposite sides of a divided society.
