Occupation: The Ordeal of France 1940–1944 (1997) is literary historian Ian Ousby's history of France under German occupation during the Second World War. Ousby describes daily life under the occupiers, from food shortages and curfews to propaganda and censorship, and examines the Vichy government, collaboration, the persecution and deportation of Jews, and the slow growth of the Resistance. He also considers how France remembered the occupation after liberation.
