Oryx and Crake (2003) by Margaret Atwood is a novel set in a future reshaped by genetic engineering and the first book of the MaddAddam trilogy. Snowman, who may be the last human alive, lives in a ruined coastal landscape alongside a gentle new species called the Crakers. As he struggles to survive, he looks back on his friendship with the gifted scientist Crake and his love for the mysterious Oryx, and on the world they knew.
