Pirates of Venus
Categories: Science Fiction & Fantasy
Carson Napier builds a rocket to fly to Mars in Pirates of Venus (1934), the first of Burroughs's Venus, or Amtor, novels. He miscalculates and lands on Venus instead. There he finds giant trees, a cloud-covered sky and the tree-dwelling kingdom of Vepaja, whose people are at war with the revolutionary Thorists. He loses his heart to Duare, the king's daughter, who is forbidden to him, and is soon taken captive at sea.
