Ranch Life and the Hunting-Trail

By Theodore Roosevelt

Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Sports & Outdoors

Theodore Roosevelt's 1888 book recalls the years he spent running cattle in the Badlands of Dakota Territory in the mid-1880s, after the deaths of his mother and his first wife on the same day in 1884. Roosevelt writes about the cowboys he worked with, the spring and fall roundups, branding and trail drives, life in the ranch house, frontier justice, and hunting on the plains and in the mountains of the West.
