Richard III
Categories: Drama, Literature & Fiction
Richard, Duke of Gloucester, opens this Shakespeare history play, printed in 1597, with a soliloquy announcing his villainy, then sets out to seize the English throne. He disposes of rivals one by one, including his brother Clarence and the two young princes in the Tower. Richard woos Lady Anne over the coffin of a king he killed and confides his schemes directly to the audience. The play completes the sequence begun with the three parts of Henry VI.
