Sam the Sudden
Categories: Humor & Entertainment, Literature & Fiction
Sam Shotter, a young American, comes to London to work and takes a house in the suburb of Valley Fields in Sam the Sudden (1925; U.S. title Sam in the Suburbs). Valley Fields is P. G. Wodehouse's affectionate portrait of Dulwich, where he went to school. Sam falls for the girl next door, Kay Derrick, and has to deal with a gang of crooks searching his house for the loot a bank robber hid there.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
