Science, the Endless Frontier is the 1945 report to President Harry S. Truman by Vannevar Bush, who headed the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development during World War II. This Princeton University Press edition adds an essay by Rush D. Holt, "The Science Bargain." Bush argued that the federal government should fund basic research at universities as a source of national health, prosperity and security, a case that led to the creation of the National Science Foundation.

- Neil deGrasse Tyson: “The creation of the NSF deserves some exposition. It was inspired by the 1945 report Science: The Endless Frontier. Written by Truman's science advisor, Vannevar Bush, the report compellingly argues for government-funded science as a driver of our wealth, our health, and our security.”
