Categories: Literature & Fiction
Gregory David Roberts's 2003 novel follows Lin, an Australian bank robber and heroin addict who escapes from prison and flees to Bombay in the 1980s. Living in a slum, he runs a free clinic, works for a mafia boss, smuggles arms and falls for an elusive woman named Karla, while forming bonds with fellow exiles. The novel draws on events from the author's own life, though some of his claims are disputed.
