Silent Spring
Categories: Animals, Science & Math
Silent Spring is a 1962 book by the American marine biologist Rachel Carson. It documents how synthetic pesticides such as DDT were being sprayed widely and building up in soil, water, wildlife and people. Carson argued that the chemical industry and government agencies had misled the public about these risks. The book drew fierce attacks from manufacturers, but it helped spark the modern environmental movement and contributed to the US ban on DDT for farm use in 1972.
