Small Boat
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Small Boat (2023) is a novel by French philosopher Vincent Delecroix, drawing on the sinking of a migrant boat in the English Channel in November 2021. The narrator, a French coastguard operator on duty that night, is questioned by an investigator after it emerges that she took calls from the boat but did not send help. As she recounts the night, the novel examines responsibility, indifference and how Europe treats those who try to cross its borders.
