Sophist
By Plato
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
A late work by Plato, the Sophist continues the conversation of the Theaetetus, but leadership passes from Socrates to an unnamed visitor from Elea. The visitor and Theaetetus try to define the sophist through a method of repeated division. Their search leads into hard problems about falsehood and how it is possible to say what is not. The visitor challenges the teaching of Parmenides and examines being, sameness, difference, motion and rest.
