Statesman
By Plato
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
Continuing the discussion begun in the Sophist, this late dialogue by Plato has the visitor from Elea question a young man also named Socrates. Their goal is to define the statesman and the expertise needed to rule. The inquiry includes a myth of a cosmic cycle in which the god alternately guides and releases the universe, and compares political skill to weaving, which binds different strands into one fabric.
