Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves (1963) sends Bertie Wooster back to Totleigh Towers, the country house of the magistrate Watkyn Bassett, on a mission to help his friends. He has to manage Stiffy Byng and her fiance, the curate Stinker Pinker, the wobbly engagement of Gussie Fink-Nottle and Madeline Bassett, the menacing Roderick Spode and a black amber statuette that everyone wants. Jeeves, as ever, keeps a plan in reserve.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
