Strength to Love (1963) collects sermons by Martin Luther King Jr. on faith, love and nonviolent resistance to segregation. He began drafting several while jailed in Albany, Georgia, in July 1962. Grounded in agape, a love that seeks the good of others, the sermons urge believers to meet fear with courage and faith and oppose injustice without hatred. The collection includes King's reflection that the ultimate measure of a person is where they stand in times of challenge and controversy.

- Richard Branson: “My personal favourite quote from Martin Luther King Jr comes from another source though his 1963 book Strength To Live: "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."”
