Swamplandia! is the 2011 debut novel of Karen Russell, which grew out of a story in her collection St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves. The Bigtree family runs an alligator-wrestling theme park on an island in the Florida Everglades. When their mother dies and a rival park called the World of Darkness opens, the family falls apart. Thirteen-year-old Ava sets out into the swamp to find her older sister Osceola, who has run off with a ghost. The novel was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize.
