Categories: Science Fiction & Fantasy
Edgar Rice Burroughs's ninth Barsoom book, Synthetic Men of Mars (1940), opens when Dejah Thoris is badly injured and John Carter sets out with the young officer Vor Daj to find the master surgeon Ras Thavas, the one man who might save her. They learn that Ras Thavas has been growing synthetic men, the hormads, in vats at Morbus, and that the creatures have escaped his control and threaten to overrun Barsoom. Vor Daj narrates the story.
