The Bible is the sacred scripture of Christianity; its Old Testament largely corresponds to the Hebrew Bible of Judaism. Written and compiled over many centuries, it gathers law, history, poetry, wisdom literature, prophecy, gospels and letters. It is available in many translations and editions, such as the King James Version, the New International Version and the English Standard Version. This entry covers the Bible in general rather than any single translation or edition.
