The Big Hunger: Stories 1932-1959
By John Fante
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Edited by Stephen Cooper, this collection gathers eighteen stories by John Fante, written between 1932 and 1959, that had never appeared in a book. Many draw on Fante's Italian American boyhood in Colorado and his struggles as a young writer in Los Angeles, with titles such as Horselaugh on Dibber Lannon, Jackie's Mother, Mary Osaka, I Love You and The Case of the Haunted Writer. The volume also includes a prologue he wrote for Ask the Dust, and the title story.

- Ryan Holiday: “Fante was (and is) probably my favorite American fiction writer. His voice is excellent and unique. His insight had depth and subtlety. He wrote with passion and a very real, very gritty force (an ummph). The eponymous story of this collection is one of my Fante favorites.”
