The Bridge

By Iain Banks

Categories: Literature & Fiction

After a car crash on the Forth Road Bridge, an Edinburgh engineer lies in a coma. In his mind he becomes John Orr, a man without a memory living on a vast bridge of seemingly endless length, where he tries to discover who he is. Orr's dream life, a barbarian's comic adventures and fragments of the engineer's real past in Edinburgh intertwine as the story unfolds. The Bridge was Banks's third novel, published in 1986.
