Jacqueline Winspear's 2014 standalone novel is set in England during the First World War. Thea and Kezia have been friends since school, but their lives diverge when Kezia marries Thea's brother Tom, a farmer in Kent. When Tom goes to fight in France, Kezia writes him letters filled with descriptions of elaborate meals she imagines cooking, and those letters sustain Tom and his comrades in the trenches.
