The Clash of Civilizations
By Samuel P. Huntington
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
In The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order (1996), political scientist Samuel P. Huntington argues that after the Cold War global conflict would be shaped by cultural and religious identity rather than ideology. Huntington divides the world into major civilisations, among them Western, Islamic, Sinic, Hindu, Orthodox and Latin American, and warns that the most dangerous conflicts would occur along the fault lines between them. He urges the West to strengthen its own identity rather than try to make its values universal.
