The Computer and the Brain
Categories: Science & Math
The Computer and the Brain (1958) is a short book by mathematician John von Neumann comparing computing machines with the human nervous system. Written for lectures he was unable to deliver before his death in 1957, the book explains how digital and analog computers work, then compares them with neurons and the brain. Von Neumann considers how the brain stores and processes information, and suggests it relies on a kind of mathematics quite unlike ours.
