The Dead Are Arising: The Life of Malcolm X
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Journalist Les Payne spent nearly three decades interviewing people who knew Malcolm X, from family members and childhood friends to fellow members of the Nation of Islam. After Payne's death in 2018, his daughter and principal researcher, Tamara Payne, completed the book, published in 2020. It traces Malcolm X from boyhood in Nebraska and Michigan through his years in Boston and Harlem, prison and conversion, to his split with Elijah Muhammad and his assassination in 1965.
