Categories: Literature & Fiction
The Enchantress of Florence (2008) is a novel by Salman Rushdie that moves between the court of the Mughal emperor Akbar and Renaissance Florence. A yellow-haired European traveller arrives at Akbar's capital, Fatehpur Sikri, claiming to be the emperor's long-lost relative. To prove it, he tells the story of Qara Köz, a hidden Mughal princess who travelled to Florence and enchanted the city, drawing in figures such as Niccolò Machiavelli.
