The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals

By Charles Darwin

Categories: Science & Math

Charles Darwin's 1872 study examines how fear, anger, joy, grief and other emotions are expressed through the face and body in humans and animals. Drawing on his own observations, questionnaires sent to correspondents around the world and some of the earliest photographs used in a scientific book, he argues that many expressions are inherited and shared across human cultures, and that they have counterparts in other species.
