The Fourth Turning Is Here: What the Seasons of History Tell Us about How and When This Crisis Will End

By Neil Howe

Categories: History, Politics & Social Sciences

In The Fourth Turning Is Here (2023), historian and demographer Neil Howe returns to the generational theory he developed with the late William Strauss in The Fourth Turning (1997). The theory holds that history moves in cycles of four eras, or turnings, each about twenty years long and shaped by the generations living through them. Howe argues that the United States entered a crisis era around 2008 and forecasts how and when it may end, and what each generation's role will be.
