The Gates of the Alamo
Categories: History, Literature & Fiction
Stephen Harrigan's novel of the Texas Revolution follows Edmund McGowan, a solitary botanist cataloging the plants of Texas, Mary Mott, a widowed innkeeper in Refugio, and her sixteen-year-old son, Terrell, who leaves home to join the fight. Their paths cross with the Alamo's defenders, including William Travis and David Crockett, and with the soldiers of Santa Anna's army, whose side of the campaign Harrigan also tells, as events build toward the fall of the mission.
