The Girl in Blue
Categories: Humor & Entertainment, Literature & Fiction
At the heart of The Girl in Blue (1970) is a miniature portrait attributed to Gainsborough, which vanishes from Mellingham Hall, the crumbling home of Crispin Scrope. Jerry West, a young cartoonist, has fallen for a girl he met on a bus and gets swept into the search for the missing picture. Also in the hunt are an American lawyer, a light-fingered aunt and a butler with secrets of his own.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
