The Gulag Archipelago (Abridged)

By Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, History

The Gulag Archipelago, first published in 1973, is Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's history of the Soviet prison camp system, here in the one-volume abridgment by Edward E. Ericson Jr. Drawing on his own years as a prisoner and on the testimony of hundreds of others, Solzhenitsyn traces the system from arrest and interrogation through transport, forced labor and exile. He shows how terror became routine under Lenin and Stalin, and asks how ordinary people came to take part in it.
