The Happiness Hypothesis
By Jonathan Haidt
Categories: Self-Help
In this 2006 book, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt takes ten great ideas about happiness from thinkers such as Plato, the Buddha and Jesus and tests them against modern psychological research. Each chapter examines one idea, from the divided self, in which reason struggles to control instinct, to maxims such as "do unto others as you would have others do unto you." Haidt draws out the lessons that still apply to modern life and explores virtue, fulfillment, meaning and the causes of human flourishing.
