The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire
Categories: History
Edward Gibbon's history spans thirteen centuries, from the age of the emperor Trajan to the taking of Constantinople by the Turks. First published in six volumes between 1776 and 1789, it remains one of the great narratives in European literature. In this edition, David Womersley's selection and linking commentary give readers a sense of the argument and sweep of the whole work, while showing off the range and style that made Gibbon famous.
