The Home We Build Together: Recreating Society

In The Home We Build Together (2007), Rabbi Jonathan Sacks challenges multiculturalism as practised in Britain and the West, arguing that it has encouraged separate communities rather than a shared society. He compares models of national life: society as a country house where newcomers are guests, as a hotel where residents share nothing but the building, and as a home that everyone builds together. Sacks argues for the last, with integration grounded in common responsibility, citizenship and a shared national story.
