The Man Upstairs and Other Stories
Categories: Humor & Entertainment, Literature & Fiction
The Man Upstairs (1914) gathered magazine stories into Wodehouse's earliest collection for adult readers. Its nineteen stories are mostly romantic comedies set in London and New York, about artists, writers, chorus girls and young men looking for love or money. The title story introduces Annette Brougham, a young composer, who meets the struggling painter who lives in the flat above hers and keeps interrupting her playing.

- Fareed Zakaria: “P. G. Wodehouse. I’ve read almost everything he wrote. He once explained that there were two ways of writing novels. “One is mine, making the thing a sort of musical comedy without music, ignoring real life altogether; the other is going right down deep into life and not caring a damn.” He did the former better than almost anyone.”
