The Map of Love
By Dylan Thomas
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Published in August 1939, on the eve of war in Europe, this book combines sixteen poems with seven short stories. The poems include "After the funeral," an elegy for his aunt, and "If my head hurt a hair's foot," written around the birth of his son. The stories, among them "The Tree," "The Orchards" and the title piece, share the dark, dreamlike quality of his early verse. Its reception was overshadowed by the build-up to war.
