The Master Algorithm
Categories: Computers & Technology
Computer scientist Pedro Domingos explains how machine learning lets computers program themselves, powering everything from product recommendations to voice assistants and self-driving cars. Domingos describes five tribes of machine learning, among them the symbolists, connectionists and Bayesians. His 2015 book argues that their insights may one day combine into a single master algorithm able to learn anything from data, and considers what that would mean for science, business and daily life.

- Shane Parrish: “I recently had a fascinating multi-hour dinner with the author, Pedro Domingos, on where knowledge comes from. Historically, at least, the answer has been evolution, experience, and culture. Now, however, there is a new source of knowledge: Machine learning.”
