The Monopolists

The Monopolists is a 2015 work of narrative nonfiction by journalist Mary Pilon that uncovers the hidden history of Monopoly, one of the best-selling board games of all time. Pilon traces the game to Lizzie Magie, who designed The Landlord's Game in 1904 to teach the economic ideas of Henry George, and shows how Charles Darrow later sold a version to Parker Brothers as his own invention, a story exposed by an economist's long legal fight over his Anti-Monopoly game.
