Patrick Rothfuss's 2007 fantasy novel is the first book of The Kingkiller Chronicle. Its frame story spans three days, and this volume covers the first. Kvothe, a legendary figure living under an assumed name as the keeper of a quiet inn, agrees to tell a chronicler the true story of his life. He recounts his childhood in a troupe of traveling performers, the loss that left him alone on the streets of a city, and his struggle to enter the University and study magic.
