The Persistence of Faith: Religion, Morality and Society in a Secular Age
By Jonathan Sacks, Baron Sacks
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences, Religion & Spirituality
The Persistence of Faith (1991) is based on the six BBC Reith Lectures that Rabbi Jonathan Sacks delivered in 1990, shortly before he became Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth. Sacks explores why religion endures in secular societies and what it contributes to public life. He argues that faith traditions sustain the moral bonds of marriage, family and community that markets and states cannot supply, and that a pluralist society depends on them.
