Categories: Literature & Fiction
The Splendor of Portugal (1997; English translation by Rhett McNeil, 2011) is a novel by António Lobo Antunes about a Portuguese family that lost its plantation in the Angolan War of Independence. The story is told by four narrators: the mother, who stays behind in Angola hoping her children will return and rescue her, and her three adult children, who have not seen one another in years. Living apart in Lisbon, each is haunted by memories of colonial Angola and of their family.
