The Structure of Scientific Revolutions
By Thomas Kuhn
Categories: Science & Math
Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, first published in 1962, was a landmark in the history and philosophy of science. Kuhn challenged the view that science advances by the steady accumulation of facts and theories. He argued instead that periods of normal science, in which researchers solve puzzles within an accepted framework, or paradigm, are interrupted by revolutions. As anomalies pile up, a new paradigm replaces the old one, as in the Copernican Revolution. His idea of a paradigm shift came into wide use far beyond science.
