The Testament
By Elie Wiesel
Categories: Literature & Fiction
Elie Wiesel's novel, first published in French in 1980, is the prison testament of Paltiel Kossover, a Jewish poet who embraced communism and was executed in Stalin's 1952 purge of Yiddish writers. His account of his life, from his Jewish boyhood to his faith in the revolution and its betrayal, is smuggled out and reaches his son Grisha, who has emigrated to Israel and cannot speak.
