The Witches
By Roald Dahl
Categories: Children's Books
Real witches, in Roald Dahl's 1983 novel, look like ordinary women but hide bald heads under wigs, claws under gloves and square feet in sensible shoes, and they loathe children. A seven-year-old English boy learns this from his cigar-smoking Norwegian grandmother, an authority on witches, after his parents die. On a seaside hotel vacation, he stumbles on the annual meeting of England's witches and overhears the Grand High Witch's plan to turn every child in the country into a mouse.
