Theaetetus
By Plato
Categories: Politics & Social Sciences
Plato's inquiry into knowledge opens with Socrates meeting Theaetetus, a gifted young mathematician introduced by his teacher Theodorus. Socrates compares himself to a midwife who helps others give birth to ideas and then tests whether they are sound. Together they examine three definitions of knowledge: as perception, as true judgment, and as true judgment with an account. Along the way Socrates discusses Protagoras's claim that man is the measure of all things.
