Troop 6000
Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Troop 6000 (2020) is New York Times journalist Nikita Stewart's account of the first Girl Scout troop founded for girls living in a homeless shelter, in Queens, New York, in 2017. Stewart follows Giselle Burgess, a mother of five who had worked for the Girl Scouts, as she starts the troop while living with her children in a single motel room. Over more than a year she shows the families' struggles in the shelter system and how the troop grew to shelters across the city.
