Under Milk Wood

By Dylan Thomas

Categories: Drama, Literature & Fiction

Dylan Thomas called Under Milk Wood a "play for voices." Across a single spring day, it follows the dreams, memories and daily routines of the people of Llareggub, a fictional fishing village on the Welsh coast. Narrators guide listeners from the sleeping town at night through morning and dusk, among residents including the blind sea captain Captain Cat. The work was first broadcast on BBC radio in January 1954, two months after Thomas's death, with Richard Burton as First Voice.
