Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community? (1967) is the last book Martin Luther King Jr. published, written after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. King assesses the movement at a turning point, responding to the rise of the Black Power slogan and to white backlash. He argues that the next stage must address economic justice, calling for an end to poverty through measures such as a guaranteed income, and sets the struggle within a global vision.
