Whole Earth Discipline

In this 2009 manifesto, Stewart Brand, founder of the Whole Earth Catalog, argues that environmentalists must rethink some of their positions to respond to climate change. Brand describes three transformations shaping the planet: climate change, urbanization and biotechnology. Calling himself an ecopragmatist, he makes the case for the green potential of cities, nuclear power, genetically engineered crops and geoengineering, knowing that many environmentalist readers will start out disagreeing with him.
