Wind, Sand and Stars

Categories: Biographies & Memoirs
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's memoir, first published in France in 1939 as Terre des hommes, draws on his years as a pilot flying airmail routes across Africa and South America. He recalls fellow aviators, the desert and his 1935 crash in the Sahara, where he and his navigator nearly died of thirst. Through these episodes he reflects on friendship, death, courage, solidarity and the search for meaning. Lewis Galantière's English translation appeared the same year.
